Jude Nnodum, Jnr., Ph.D

Jude is a Partner and a core member of the firm’s dispute resolution practice. He has considerable experience representing a wide range of clients, including private and public companies, public/government institutions, multinational corporations and high-net-worth individuals (HNI), in landmark, complex, and high-ticket (often bet-the-company) cases in a wide range of matters.

His dispute resolution practice, which includes arbitration and mediation, covers banking and financial services, energy (oil and gas), environmental law, labour and employment, investment securities and capital market.

Jude obtained both his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Sussex, UK, with research interests in the areas of international investment law (international investment arbitration and international investment treaties) and international commercial arbitration and has written extensively in these areas.

Jude also has considerable teaching experience, taking up a position as a doctoral tutor and teaching ‘Introduction to Business Law’ and ‘Justice, Equality and the Society’ modules at the University of Sussex, UK. He also delivers seminars on different areas of law, including the art of legal research.

In his spare time, Jude enjoys painting and singing karaoke.

• Represented a foremost commercial bank in a claim of approximately ₦12,000,0000,000 (Twelve Billion Naira), in which the corporate customer alleged overcharge of interest on its loan accounts. The suit was settled after the preliminary objections were raised and defence filed.

• Advised and represented a nationally recognised financial institution in a suit for debt recovery against its corporate customer in the sum of approximately $78,000,000 (seventy-eight million dollars), which involved seeking injunctive reliefs, including mareva injunction.

• Represented a foremost bank in a suit by its former employee at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria involving claims of wrongful dismissal, non-payment of salaries and other emoluments, and had most of the claimant’s reliefs dismissed with the claimant only awarded a months’ salary in contrast to over ₦1,000,000,000 (one billion naira) sought.

• Advised a multinational financial institution on the windfall tax law seeking to retrospectively impose a windfall levy on foreign exchange transactions of the previous year, 2023.

• Advised professional service provider on the implication of the Nigeria Tax Act on the transfer of property between related entities through gift.

• Representing a multinational and foremost telecommunications company in a suit at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, which raises important issues regarding the interpretation of the Nigerian Communications Act and permission by a regulatory authority allowing the increment of telecommunication rates.
